Through classroom sessions and practical exercises, this course will give the new junior firefighter the ability to perform very basic support skills, safely and effectively as a member of a fire suppression organization. This program will cover basic fire chemistry, introduction to safety and training, hose construction and loads, personal protective clothing, basic ladder identification, ladder carries and raises, portable fire extinguishers, and basic equipment identification and application. This course does not meet or exceed the PA Essentials of Firefighting Program and cannot be used as prerequisite for any other programs.
