The purpose of fire and life safety education is to reduce the incidences of emergency incidents, deaths, injuries, and damage to property. Schools can provide access to children in the community and allow fire service members to provide lessons that benefit the children as well as their families. While many fire service members understand the importance of preventive measures and risk reduction, they lack the resources to develop and maintain these programs. This course provides a pathway to establishing these classes and shares lesson plans and examples from an established and nationally recognized fire and life safety program. Adaptive lessons for children with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergence are also discussed.
